Roof De-Icing

Roof de-icing is a popular service throughout the winter months in Michigan.  Homeowners may notice innocent looking icicles hanging from their gutters, but there is caution to be taken.  Over the length of your home, the gutter line can fill up with hundreds of pounds of ice. This will pull the gutters away from your home, causing structural damage and expensive repairs.

Ice filled gutters and subsequent ice growth onto the roof are often referred to as ice dams. These are caused when warm air seeping from the attic or inside a house causes snow on the roof to melt.  The melted snow runs into gutters and freezes, prohibiting the water from draining properly.  The water backs up under the shingles and begins to leak into the home.  This can cause wood to rot and damage to drywall and plaster.

The experts at Great Lakes Pressure Cleaning and The Stain Shop can safely remove the ice dams from your home or business.  Our trained technicians use hot water to cut through the ice and remove it from the roof line and gutters.  This eliminates the current ice formation and any leaking that may be resulting from the buildup.  We recommend homeowners make sure they have proper insulation and air flow through their attics to minimize ice formations in the future.
